The Agric Department of Obuasi East District organized three model trainings for farmers within the district to increase productivity and exterminate deficiency in the long run.
The models included:
- The New Extension Agent
- Post-Harvest Management
- FBO development
Out of these trainings, four individuals took advantage of the workshop to set up their own business. They have adapted all the technologies they learnt from the TEDMAG trainings, together with the facilitation of Agric. Extension Agents.
One of such individuals is Daniel Afum, a 46 years old lay farmer, who attended trainings organized by the Agric Department and grabbed the advantages of the trainings to start a Cereal Mix business called Mummies Corn Milk in the Obuasi East District.
Through his revision and hard work, REP/BAC granted him a loan to buy a van to convey his Cereal Mix to supply in and around Obuasi as conveying the produce was a major problem.
He has also employed three (3) labourers on his fields. He has achieved a lot within these few years and hoping to widen his territory.
The second individual Edward Amponsah Bonsu who is a crop farmer has added to his business Rabbit Production. Through his revision and hard work, he was granted a loan to buy Machine to prepare their Feed and to construct additional Structures which has increase his farm.
A woman called Khadija Benewah who is also a crop farmer has started Cassava Processing, (Gari) after TEDMAG trainings. she was granted a loan to buy Grating Machine and to construct new Fuel Effective Roaster and Roasting Pan to augment her existing assets and to construct additional Structures for more production. She has now employed two extra individuals which is a means of employment to help her in her duties.
Isaac Mensah who is also a crop farmer has added to his business Fish farming/ aqua-culture after the TEDMAG trainings. He was granted a loan to buy Peritizer Machine to prepare their Feed and to construct additional Structures.
For Sustainability measures, The Department of Agriculture visits them all regularly at their fields to oversee and encourage them to work harder. They are also part of an FBO group in their communities which is very active and performing massively in the District.
