The Obuasi East Municipal Assembly has achieved a significant milestone, exceeding its revenue target for the period of January to May 31, 2025. The Assembly collected One Million and Five Thousand, One Hundred and Twenty-Seven Ghana Cedis Fifty-Eight Pesewas GH₵1,005,127.58 against a budgeted Nine Hundred and Fifteen Thousand, Four Hundred and Twenty Ghana Cedis GH₵915,420.00, representing 110% of its target.
During the General Assembly Meeting held on July 9th and 10th, 2025, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. William Kofi Adzowu, lauded the revenue unit for their outstanding performance. He highlighted this achievement as a remarkable improvement in revenue mobilization.
Hon. Adzowu attributed the success to several strategic measures implemented by the Assembly:
Property Valuation: Comprehensive valuation of all properties within the municipality to ensure property rate collection is based on accurate assessments.
Billing Software: Utilization of billing software to improve collection efficiency and achieve full payment recovery.
Timely Commission Payments: Prompt payment of commissions to revenue collectors to incentivize performance.
Reliable Database: Building a robust database for all revenue items within the municipality.
Operational Vehicle: Provision of an official vehicle to the Works Department to expedite building and development permit processing, thereby boosting fee collection.
Key revenue streams contributing to this success included sand and stone levies, building and development fees, property rates, and daily market tolls. Despite the impressive performance, Hon. Adzowu emphasized that there’s still potential for further improvement in other revenue-generating areas
Advancing National Programs: 24-Hour Economy and Feed Ghana
Hon. Adzowu also touched on government flagship programs designed to address national concerns and uplift living standards: the “24 Hour Economy” and the “Feed Ghana Program (FGP).”
24-Hour Economy Initiative
The MCE informed Assembly Members about the launch of the “24 Hour Economy” program by President John Dramani Mahama on July 3rd, 2025, in Accra. This initiative aims to accelerate economic growth, create employment opportunities, and boost exports for foreign exchange.
Regarding the Assembly’s plans for the “24 Hour Economy,” Hon. Adzowu stated that the municipality intends to relocate wood sellers from their current site to the designated Boete industry park. This move will free up the existing wood sellers’ location for development into an ultra-modern market capable of operating day and night. The new market will include dedicated vehicle parking and lorry stations, making the municipality more accessible and reducing the cost of doing business.
To facilitate this relocation, the Municipal Assembly has proposed the phased construction of nine sheds at the new site. Additionally, the Boete industry park will be complemented by auxiliary facilities such as a Health Center, Police station, School, and a Lorry Terminal, creating a more integrated and functional hub.
Feed Ghana Program (FGP)
On the “Feed Ghana Program,” Hon. Adzowu explained that this agricultural intervention seeks to transform Ghana’s agricultural sector, ensure food security, create sustainable employment, and enhance economic growth. The program aims to reduce import dependency while boosting domestic production, creating jobs and wealth, enhancing value addition, and improving nutritional outcomes.
He noted that the Assembly’s agriculture department is well underway with registering farmers under the program and sensitizing them to ensure maximum participation.
