The Obuasi East Municipal Assembly (OEMA) has officially started its agricultural support initiative, commencing the distribution of 10,000 poultry birds alongside feeds under the popular “Nkoko Nketenkete” program.
A total of 215 beneficiaries across the municipality were selected to receive the birds and essential feed packages to boost local poultry production.
MCE Emphasizes Economic Growth and Sustainability
Addressing the beneficiaries during the distribution exercise, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) highlighted government’s core intention to boost the local economy, create viable employment opportunities, and improve the overall standard of living for citizens in the municipality.
The MCE strongly urged and encouraged the farmers to ensure the long-term sustainability of the initiative. He advised them not to view the distribution as a one-time benefit, but rather to reinvest their returns by purchasing and nurturing new young birds once the initial batch matures and is sold.
To ensure efficiency and high survival rates among the birds, the Assembly applied a strict selection and allocation process:
Capacity-Based Allocation: Beneficiaries were allocated birds based on their farm size and housing capabilities. Farmers with large coops and proven management capabilities received up to a maximum of 50 birds, while others received 40 or 30 birds depending on their capacity.
Essential Requirements: Distribution criteria were strictly based on each farmer’s ability to provide extra feed, adequate care, and the necessary essentials required for the healthy growth and well-being of the birds.
