The 2024 Regional Budget Hearing was held on Thursday 12th October 2023 at Old Court Wawasi in the Obuasi East District together with four other participating District Assemblies namely, Amansie South, Amansie West, Amansie Central and Akrofuom.
Budget Hearing have been established as an important part of the Budget Management Process looking at the revenues and expenditure estimates of the Assemblies to study in an open discussion.
The Hearing was organized as part of the 2024-2027 Composite Budget Preparation, the aim is to afford the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) the opportunity to scrutinize and guide the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) and ensure that budget allocations reflected the objectives and strategies of government policies, programs and are in line with 2024-2027 Budget Guidelines as set by the Ministry of Finance.
In her welcome address, the Obuasi East District Chief Executive, Hon. Faustina Amissah, welcomed all the District Chief Executives and their entourage to the 2024 Regional Composite Budget Hearing as she expressed her excitement hosting them into the District.
She said as individuals projects their spending plan based on their income and expenditure in their various homes so as the Government also do. Every Assembly in the beginning of every year revealed their expected Income and Expenditure, also how that income will be generated and their respective spending variables, must be presented to major stakeholders for consultation and deliberations.
Hon. Faustina said today’s focus will be on the 2023 budget, by looking at budgeted income and expenditures to the actuals to verify if various target has been met and if not how to prepare meeting those targets and also going forward how to generate revenue and spend during the year 2024.
In her conclusion she said “I know that as we have met today with the help of the team from the Regional Coordinating Council, the rep from the Finance Ministry and all the major stake holders present, together we will achieve a common goal”.
The MMDAs during the presentation of their strategic budget estimates, touched on issues including key achievements, core functions and challenges of their respective Assemblies for the 2023 Financial Year whiles highlighting on the key programs and projects of the Assemblies.
On the part of Obuasi East, the District Chief Executive Hon. Faustina Amissah highlighted on some of the 2023 Key achievements of the District as follows:
• 1no. 5-unit NHIS office accommodation 7n with ancillary facilities completed at Boete
• 1 no. 3unit classroom block with office, store and 4-seater w/c completed at Ayease.
• 2 Foot bridges completed at Aboagyerom, Tutuka and Kwabrafoso
• 4-unit classroom block with office, staff common room at Wawasi
• Constructed a community center at Akaporiso
• Drainage Constructed at NHIA office at Boete.
• 1no. 2-unit classroom block with office, store and 4-seater w/c for the Independence M/A KG at Brahabebome is completed
• Cassava processing factory completed at Mampamhwe.
And many other projects.
