The Chief Executive for Obuasi East District Assembly Hon. Faustina Amissah together with the Member of Parliament for the Area, Hon. Dr. Patrick Boakye-Yiadom and the management of Obuasi East District Assembly on Friday 26th July, 2024, embarked on community engagement to give account to the chiefs and residents of Pomposo community on completed and ongoing projects the Assembly had undertaken.
The visit which forms part of the District Chief Executive tour in the district was to strengthen social accountability and would assist her to ascertain various challenges facing the people and initiate strategies for solving them.
In her address Hon. Faustina Amissah said, Local Assemblies are enjoined by the Act establishing them to periodically engage their people to know their concerns which would inform policy formulation.
She gave an account on the current state of the Assembly’s Administration block situated at Pomposo, she said the contractor left the site for a while making the project a stand still but was quick to add that the contractor has returned to site and working assiduously to complete the project.
The Member of Parliament Hon. Dr. Patrick Boakye-Yiadom also used the opportunity to highlight on a number of projects undertaken in the district which include; rehabilitation of roads, construction of 12-seater water closet toilet facility at Pomposo school, distribution of desks to schools, distribution of street lights, provision of roofing sheets to support a community center project at Pomposo, construction of 6-unit classroom block with offices and many others.
Nana Kofi Amoateng Kotoko, the Odikro of Pomposo on behalf of the community members expressed his gratitude to the DCE and MP for visiting his community. Nana Amoateng appealed to the District Chief Executive and the Member of Parliament to come to their aid and provide them a community park, supply them with enough street bulbs and construction of foot bridge.
The youth of Pomposo requested the DCE and MP to help solve unemployment issue among the youth in the community, especially getting job at the Anglogold Ashanti Obuasi Mine.
According to the youth AGA has denied the citizens of Obuasi an opportunity to get employed into the mine but rather employing people who are not from Obuasi.
Hon. Faustina Amissah in her response to the grievances from the chief and people of Pomposo said the Assembly is committed to addressing the plight of the people in the district. She said about the issue of foot bridge, engineers will be accessing the current state of it and construction will start as soon as possible.
On street lights she said the Member of Parliament has made provision for that and will soon be distributed to various communities.
She touched on inner roads and promised the citizenry that the contractor will be on site in the next two months to start work on the roads.
Hon. Amissah thanked the people of Pomposo for their audience and participation in the forum, she promised to make such engagements a regular activity while assuring them that her office is always opened to them.
