As part of the Local Government Service’s mission to digitize the District Performance Assessment Tool (DPAT) process and enhance evidence-based planning, budgeting, and monitoring at the district level, a one-day workshop was held on 20th November 2024. This initiative being part of a broader strategy brought together key focal officers from six Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs), including Planning Officers, Budget Officers, Management Information System (MIS) Officers, and Statisticians. The workshop saw active participation from the following MMDAs: Obuasi East Municipal Assembly (Host) being the host assembly, Akrofuom District Assembly, Bekwai Municipal Assembly, Amansie Central, Amansie South District Assembly and Adansi North District Assembly.
The workshop opened with remarks from Alhaji Abdallah Shamsu, the Deputy Director of Obuasi East District Assembly. He stressed the importance of the training and encouraged participants to fully engage with the material. He highlighted that the District Development Data Platform (DDDP) would be pivotal in evaluating MMDAs’ performance, ultimately enhancing service delivery and governance.
Throughout the day, participants received training on several essential topics associated with the DDDP. They learned about the platform’s objectives and its functionalities for district development planning. The agenda included a step-by-step guide for accessing the platform, data management relevant to district initiatives, and generating reports to support informed decision-making.
Hands-on exercises allowed attendees to practice using the platform, fostering collaboration and problem-solving among the MMDAs. Discussions at the end of the session focused on the opportunities and challenges of integrating the DDDP into existing frameworks, including improved transparency, enhanced evidence-based decision-making, and streamlined reporting processes. Challenges such as internet connectivity issues, limited technical skills among some staff, and the need for ongoing updates and support were also addressed.
Facilitators from the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council and GIZ, including Bright Ocrah, Kwasi Ofori, and Henock Kyei, expertly guided participants, ensuring they grasped the platform’s functionalities and its potential benefits for district governance.
