Media Engagement: Obuasi East MCE Highlights Major Achievement After One Year In Office

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Obuasi East, Hon. William Kofi Adzowu, has outlined a number of development achievements recorded within his first year in office during media and stakeholder engagement. Serving as a platform to present a transparent accounting of his stewardship, outline major developmental achievements, address ongoing challenges, and unveil strategic plans for the remainder of 2026.
Delivering his address, Hon. William Kofi Adzowu expressed profound gratitude to the traditional authorities, staff of the Assembly and the citizens of Obuasi East for their unwavering support since assuming office on May 15, 2025. He emphasized that his administration remains deeply committed to transforming the municipality through targeted investments in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and economic empowerment.

Key Achievements Within One Year
Robust Fiscal Management & Revenue Mobilization
Demonstrating exceptional fiscal discipline and innovative revenue mobilization strategies, the MCE revealed a remarkable performance in Internally Generated Funds (IGF). The Assembly successfully generated GH₵ 3,859,326.79, representing an impressive 98.76% of the total budgeted figure of GH₵ 3,900,708.45 for the period. This fiscal success has provided the necessary leverage to fund critical local development initiatives.
Transforming Educational Infrastructure
To foster a conducive learning environment and improve educational outcomes, the administration prioritized several major school infrastructure projects across the municipality:
Low Cost: Construction of a modern 1 No. 2-Storey 6-Unit Classroom Block, complete with a 15-
seater Water Closet (W/C) facility.
Primary & JHS Interventions: Construction of a 1 No. 2-Unit Classroom Block equipped with an
office, store, and 4-seater W/C toilet facility.
Additional Capacity: Construction of the ground floor of a 1 No. 3-Unit Classroom Block
featuring dedicated W/C toilet facilities.
Domeabra:Construction of a new classroom block to expand access to education in the community.

Elevating Healthcare Deliverables & Water Access
In line with the government’s commitment to ensuring universal access to quality healthcare and clean water, Hon. Adzowu highlighted critical rural health interventions at Domeabra & Ayease Health Projects: The dual construction of ultra-modern Health Centres, each featuring a W/C facility, a 2-bedroom semi-detached Nurses’ Quarters, and dedicated Mechanized Boreholes. These projects are currently at various advanced stages of completion and aim to improve staff retention and patient care.

Water & Sanitation: The successful drilling and installation of 30 mechanized boreholes across various communities in the municipality to guarantee access to safe potable water.
Road Networks, Relocation, and Civic Infrastructure

Tutuka-Tiatiaso to Boete Road Link: To alleviate traffic congestion and improve connectivity, the Assembly undertook the construction of an alternative access road, anchored by a robust 2m x 2m Double Box Culvert.
On market relocation he said he has successful and peaceful relocation of traders to the ultra-modern New Boete Timber Market, optimizing local trade and spatial planning.

Akaporiso Community Centre: The successful completion of this vital civic facility, securing it as a lasting legacy project for community social cohesion.
Operational Efficiency: The procurement of a new utility pickup vehicle to enhance the administrative and field monitoring capacity of the Assembly.

Vision and Proposed Activities for 2026
Looking ahead, Hon. William Kofi Adzowu announced an ambitious, forward-looking agenda for the rest of 2026, focused on institutional strengthening, health, education, and economic industrialization.

Establishment of Kwabenakwa Nursing School: The administration is actively working to repurpose and ensure that the existing E-Block facility at Kwabenakwa is fully operationalized into a modern Nursing Training School.

Completion of Administrative Blocks: Prioritizing the completion of the permanent Obuasi East Municipal Administration Block at Asonkore, alongside the upcoming construction of a dedicated Municipal Health Directorate, Municipal Education Office, and a District Police Command headquarters.

Educational Logistics: Procurement and distribution of tables, chairs, mono/dual desks, and executive office swivel chairs to fully equip the Education Directorate and local schools.

The 24-Hour Economy Market at Boete: Giving updates on economic policy alignment, Hon. William Kofi Adzowu highlighted the proposed 24-Hour Economy Market infrastructure to be sited at Boete old timber market. This project is designed to stimulate night-time commerce, boost local employment, and drive round-the-clock economic productivity within the municipality.

The media engagement concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, where Hon. William Kofi Adzowu reassured stakeholders that the challenges identified during his first year ranging from logistics to funding gaps are being systematically addressed.
