Report On Training Of Women On Pastries Preparation Using Orange Fleshed Sweet potato (Ofsp)

INTRODUCTION

Training of women on pastries preparation using orange fleshed sweet potato (OFSP) was organized at Ahansonyewodea, Brahabebome, Ayease and Odumase from 4th to 7th August 2020. A total of one hundred and thirty-two (132) consisting of seventeen (17) males and one hundred and fifteen (115) females benefited from the program.

Orange fleshed sweet potatoes are one of the richest natural sources of beta-carotene, a plant- based compound that is converted to vitamin A that is critical to a healthy immune system. The human body can easily transform beta‐carotene, a natural pre‐cursor of vitamin A, into vitamin A as needed. A single sweet potato can contain 769 % of the amount of vitamin A you need to consume daily. Vitamin A is great for sight, bones and skin. Its inclusion in diet is very importance to pregnant women and children

Wheat flour, nutmeg, sugar, milk, OFSP mash, eggs, salt, milk, margarine

  • Sieve wheat flour (100g) and all dry ingredients (sugar (3 teaspoons), baking powder (1 teaspoon), nutmeg (1 teaspoon) and salt to taste)
  • Add the OFSP mash (70g) to the mixture and rub in to form a uniform mixture
  • Dilute 1 tin of milk and add to the mixture to obtain pouring mixture
  • Grease frying pan with little margarine and fry till golden brown
  • Fold and serve hot

Wheat flour, nutmeg, flavor, sugar, milk, margarine, baking powder, eggs, OFSP mash, adequate water and cooking oil

  • Sieve wheat flour (200g) and all dry ingredients (sugar (1 teaspoon), baking powder (2 teaspoons), nutmeg (1 teaspoon))
  • Add OFSP mash to the mixture and rub in
  • Add margarine (1 ½ tablespoons) and flavor (1 teaspoon) rub in
  • Beat eggs (2 eggs) separately and to the mixture
  • Add ½ cup of milk
  • Add adequate water to the mixture and knead to form a smooth and soft dough
  • Roll the dough on a floured surface
  • Cut rolled dough into square pieces
  • Deep fry the cut pieces whiles stirring until golden brown
  • Remove from oil into colander to drain
  • Allow to cool and serve
