Obuasi East Municipal Assembly Holds its last General Assembly meeting for the year: Key Decisions and Progress Updates

The Obuasi East Municipal Assembly held its last Meeting for the Fourth Session at the Wawasi Old Court on December 23rd and 24th, 2024. The meeting brought together assembly members, government officials, and stakeholders to discuss development initiatives, community concerns, and progress across various sectors.

Highlights from the Meeting
Ensuring Student Safety
In a bid to enhance student safety, the assembly tasked city guards to be deployed at bus stops, especially at Kwabenakwa, to help school pupils safely cross roads during rush hours.
Boosting Community Facilities
• Toilet Renovation in Boete: The public toilet in Boete is set for a major facelift following concerns about its poor condition and surrounding odor. An official report will guide further action.
• Gari Processing Factory Upgrade: The assembly is working on replacing the manual machine with an electric one at the Mampanhwe Gari processing factory after other prioritized projects are completed.

Road Maintenance and Traffic Relief
Efforts to reshape internal roads have progressed, with 80% of work completed in Mampanhwe. The assembly plans an emergency meeting to address the growing traffic caused by potholes on main roads.
Educational Advancements
• The assembly’s support for education was commended, with reports of improved student performance. Out of 1,079 registered students for the BECE, only five were absent.
• An invitation was extended to the Municipality’s Teachers’ Prize Giving Day on December 8th, celebrating the hard work of educators.

Security and Law Enforcement
The District Police Command reported no major security threats, except for minor thefts and illegal motorcycle taxi operations. The commander assured the public that bail processes remain free and detainees are handled lawfully.
MP’s Development Initiatives
The Member of Parliament shared updates on various projects, including:
• Provision of furniture for schools and an ICT lab fully equipped with computers.
• Financial support for police and fire services.
• Installation of boreholes in four communities and the completion of district-wide streetlight repairs.
