In a decisive move to strengthen socio-economic infrastructure in the Obuasi East Municipal Assembly, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. William Kofi Adzowu, has broken ground for the construction of three landmark projects: a modern Health Centre with Nurses’Quarters at Domeabra, a Kindergarten (KG) block with ancillary facilities at Nyamesomyede, and a Junior High School (JHS) classroom block with ancillary facilities at Asonkore.
The projects are set to address longstanding gaps in healthcare delivery and educational infrastructure, marking a new chapter of growth and improved service delivery for residents of Domeabra, Nyamesomyede, Asonkore and neighbouring communities.
Ending the Shift System in Schools
Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Adzowu underscored that the new JHS classroom block is a strategic intervention aimed at eliminating the “shift system” in parts of the municipality.
“Our goal is to ensure that no student sacrifices instructional time due to inadequate classroom space. This JHS block will reduce overcrowding and create a more conducive environment for effective teaching and learning,” he stated.
He further highlighted the importance of the KG block at Nyamesomyede, noting that expanding access to early childhood education remains a priority. By bringing school infrastructure closer to communities, the Assembly seeks to give every child a strong academic foundation.
The MCE also appealed to community members for their cooperation and support to ensure the timely completion of the projects.
Strengthening Healthcare Delivery at Domeabra
The construction of the modern Health Centre with Nurses’ Quarters is expected to significantly improve healthcare access and quality in Domeabra and surrounding communities. According to the MCE, the facility will provide accessible, timely and quality healthcare services, reducing the distance residents currently travel to access basic medical care.
The initiative received commendation from sector leaders who pledged their full collaboration to ensure optimal utilization of the facilities upon completion.
The Municipal Health Director, Mrs. Charity Afrifaa-Adjei, expressed appreciation to the MCE for the intervention and assured that qualified health personnel would be deployed immediately after completion.
A representative from the Education Directorate, Samuel Oppong, described the JHS block as a “game-changer,” noting that while the project marks significant progress toward ending the shift system, continued partnership will be essential to fully eradicate it across the municipality.
