Obuasi East MCE Hands Over Boete Market Site for 24-Hour Economy Project

In a major boost to local economic growth and community development, the Obuasi East Municipal Assembly has officially handed over the site for the construction of a pioneering, ultra-modern 24-Hour Economy Market at the old Timber Market site in Boete.
The official site possession and handover ceremony took place on May 26, 2026, marking the formal transition of the land to the contractor to begin immediate construction

The project is a direct implementation of the Government of Ghana’s innovative 24-hour economy policy. Designed to break the traditional limits of daytime trading, the Boete market will serve as a continuous economic hub, operating day and night to stimulate local commerce, create sustainable jobs, and improve access to essential services.
Moving far beyond a standard trading space, this landmark development integrates multiple vital public and private services into a single, secure location. Key features of the multi-functional facility include:
• A Modern Integrated Market: Facilitating seamless day-and-night trading for local vendors.
• Healthcare & Safety: An on-site clinic and a fully stocked pharmacy to handle medical needs around
the clock.
• Enhanced Security: A dedicated police station built directly into the complex to guarantee safety for
traders, shoppers, and commuters at any hour.
• Modern Retail Space: A shopping mart to provide diverse commercial options alongside traditional
market stalls.

With all baseline paperwork and detailed architectural drawings fully finalized, the municipality is in a privileged position. Obuasi East is among the fortunate local authorities selected to receive and implement the premium “Model 1” design blueprint; the most comprehensive layout under the national policy.
The handing-over ceremony was led by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), who was joined by lead consultants from Eco Planners and Engineering Consult, based in Accra. Together, they walked the site, verified the boundaries, and officially tasked the contractor with delivering a high-quality build.
The project is structurally slated for completion within a three-year timeline.
With site clearing and preliminary groundwork commencing this month, management from the Assembly will be conducting regular monitoring visits to ensure construction milestones are hit on schedule.
