Obuasi East MP, DCE Commission Cassava Processing Factory, Library & Other Major Projects

A Cassava Processing factory that seeks to refine raw cassava into finished products has been commissioned at Mampamhwe in the Obuasi East district of the Ashanti Region.

The facility, which is expected to produce Gari and other products was financed from the Assembly’s share of the District Assemblies Common Fund- Responsiveness Factor Grant (DACF-RFG)

The Obuasi East MP Dr. Patrick Boakye Yiadom and the District Chief Executive Hon. Faustina Amissah also commissioned a community library at Lowcost, a 3-unit classroom block at Brahabebome, and a 4-unit classroom block at St. Joseph School, Wawase, at separate ceremonies.

The cassava processing factory according to the Member of Parliament of the Obuasi East constituency Dr. Patrick Boakye who spoke at a ceremony to commission the project said the cassava processing factory would not only create more jobs for the people of Mampamhwe but also provide a ready market for farmers and deal with post-harvest losses to boost the local economy.

He said they have liaised with an investor who will provide a local ready market for the gari and export some. “We decided to bring the factory here because of the availability of raw materials but we have also collaborated effectively with a businesswoman who will provide ready markets for the gari from Mampamhwe”.

Education remains our topmost priority

In an interview with the media, the Chief Executive of the Obuasi East District Assembly said the entire district had no community library since it was carved out of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly in 2018.

She said the decision to put up the library with an ICT center and a photocopier machine was based on the resolve of the Assembly and Member of Parliament to improve education in the District.

She said the Assembly has made conscious efforts to improve education by bridging the infrastructural gap in schools in the district and also providing educational facilities that will enhance teaching and learning

Hon. Faustina Amissah emphasized that the 3-unit KG block with washroom, staff common room, headteacher’s office, and furniture at Brahabebome School will replace the old block which was in a deplorable state. The 4-unit classroom block at St. Joseph R/C, Wawase according to the DCE will boost infrastructure in the school which was recently affected by a heavy windstorm.

Bridging infrastructural gap

Meanwhile, the Obuasi East District Education Director Kwabena Owusu Nketia has commended the Member of Parliament and the Assembly for putting resources together to build the library and the school projects.

He averred that the school projects in particular will contribute to bridging the infrastructural gaps in schools within the districts.

“Much of our challenges for us as a directorate is about infrastructure. We are particularly excited that the Assembly and the MP are not resting on their oars but are working assiduously to improve the situation. We are grateful for their support”, he said.
