The Obuasi East Municipal Assembly has finalized preparations for the first phase of the “Nkoko Nketenkete” poultry distribution, scheduled to commence on January 21, 2026. This follows a comprehensive health and readiness inspection conducted by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. William Kofi Adzowu, on Tuesday, January 13.
The “Nkoko Nketenkete” initiative is a flagship program launched by President John Dramani Mahama under the broader Feed Ghana agenda. The program aims to revitalize the local poultry industry and reduce the nation’s dependence on imported frozen chicken, which cost the economy over $350 million in 2023 alone. Under this policy, three million birds are being distributed across 276 constituencies, with Obuasi East slated to receive a total of 10,000 birds.
To maximize survival rates, the program utilizes “Anchor Farmers”—experienced technical partners with the infrastructure necessary to manage chicks during their most vulnerable early stages. In Obuasi East, NADMAX FARMS was selected to provide this specialized care, including professional brooding, health monitoring, and the administration of immunizations against common poultry diseases.
During his high-level inspection of the facility, Hon. William Kofi Adzowu confirmed that the Assembly has received 444 bags of specialized branded feed and essential veterinary drugs to maintain the stock in peak condition. While the initial delivery of 6,700 birds faced an early setback with a mortality of 2,865 chicks during the brooding stage, the MCE confirmed that the government has already provided full replacements.
Currently, 3,758 birds have been certified as healthy, matured, and fully prepared for the upcoming January 21 rollout. The recently replaced batch of chicks will remain under the expert care of NADMAX FARMS for further nurturing until they meet the required standards for household distribution.
Following the completion of the rearing phase, the Assembly will begin the formal handover to registered beneficiaries. Each selected household is expected to receive 50 healthy birds, two bags of specialized feed, and technical guidance to ensure the success of their backyard poultry management.
Hon. William Kofi Adzowu expressed high satisfaction with the progress at NADMAX FARMS, noting that the program is a vital step toward achieving local food security and providing economic empowerment for the youth and women within the Obuasi East Municipality
