The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Obuasi East, Hon. William Kofi Adzowu and the Member of Parliament for the Obuasi East Constituency, Hon. Dr. Patrick Boakye- Yiadom, has embarked on a tour of Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) examination centers in the Municipality to motivate candidates and boost their confidence to enable them sail through the examinations successfully.
Addressing the candidates, the MCE stressed that the Assembly remains firmly behind them. He urged the candidates to maintain Obuasi’s outstanding BECE history. Emphasizing that Obuasi has been credited with Churning out excellent BECE results over the years, noting that their teachers have prepared them adequately and he is confident in the level of their studies.
Performance Target
Setting a high bar for excellence, the MCE stated he is expecting not less than a 98% pass rate from this year’s cohort. He then cautioned them to eschew any form of examination malpractices which could end their academic journey.
On his part, the Member of Parliament for Obuasi East Constituency Hon. Dr. Patrick Boakye Yiadom also advised the candidates, focusing on the importance of examination integrity. He cautioned against any form of academic dishonesty, reminding them that malpractice only hinders their future and that they should rely on what they have been taught.
“I observed a palpable sense of excitement among the candidates, noting their eagerness to successfully complete their basic education and transition to the next level of their academic journey.” Hon. Boakye-Yiadom stated.
The Municipal Education Director, Kwabena Owusu Nketia provided a comprehensive breakdown of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) statistics for the Obuasi East Municipality.
He stated that a total of 2,120 candidates have been registered to sit for this year’s examination. The Director highlighted a strong representation across both gender and school categories which consists of 1,022 males and 1,098 females which 1,591 candidates are from public schools and 529 candidates from private schools.
Zero Pregnancies
In a notable achievement for the Municipality’s social and educational policies, Mr. Nketia confirmed that Obuasi East has recorded zero (0) pregnancies among the candidates.
According to the Education Director, this successful trend remains consistent with the Municipality’s performance in previous years, reflecting the effectiveness of local guidance and support systems for students. Emphasizing that, education serves as the fundamental pillar of national development, the Director called upon all stakeholders including parents, traditional leaders, and community members to remain committed to their roles. He stressed that collective responsibility is essential to building a brighter and more secure future for the youth of Obuasi East.
The visit concluded with a shared sense of optimism as the leadership reaffirmed their commitment to the educational advancement of the youth within the Obuasi East Municipality.
