The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Obuasi East Municipal Assembly, Hon. William Kofi Adzowu, has called on all Ghanaians to embrace integrity, discipline, patriotism, and collective responsibility as the foundation for building a prosperous and united nation.
Speaking at the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving Service held at the Freeman Methodist Church and Obuasi East Central Mosque in Tutuka, Hon. Adzowu emphasized that building a prosperous nation depends not only on government policies buts requires a collective effort from every sector of society. He noted that parents, the youth, religious groups, traditional authorities, and public servants must all work in synergy to foster national transformation.
The event, which brought together religious leaders, traditional authorities, government officials and the general public, was held under the theme: “Resetting Our Values to Build the Ghana We Want.”
A Collective Responsibility for Nation Building
Delivering his address, the MCE did not shy away from the critical challenges currently hindering the nation’s progress. He observed that a country’s development is deeply intertwined with its moral fabric, expressing worry over the rapid decline of traditional Ghanaian values.
“Today, our development as a nation faces numerous challenges including corruption, indiscipline, moral decadence, environmental degradation, and the increasing erosion of our cherished values,” Hon. Adzowu stated.
He noted that these pressing issues serve as a stark reminder that nation-building cannot be left to the government alone. Instead, he described it as a shared civic duty that rests on the shoulders of every single citizen, urging Ghanaians to let patriotism and integrity guide their daily actions.
Turning his attention to the younger generation, whom he described as the bedrock of the nation’s future, Hon. Adzowu urged the youth to shun drug abuse and social vices. He advised them to anchor their lives on hard work, education, and discipline to secure a bright future. Recognizing the spiritual and social battles the youth face in modern times, he also called on the church and community leaders to constantly lift them up in prayer and provide mentorship.
Driving Local Development and Healthcare
Beyond the call for moral revival, Hon. William Kofi Adzowu highlighted the Assembly’s tangible contributions to improving the livelihoods of local residents. He stressed that resetting values also means delivering on promises and ensuring that public resources directly benefit the community.
He then seized the opportunity to outlined several key developmental projects undertaken by the Obuasi East Municipal Assembly, notably in the healthcare sector, aimed at accessible and quality care.
Among these achievements is the successful completion of a comprehensive health facility infrastructure in the municipality, which includes:
* Two distinct health centers at Domeabra and Ayease to ease pressure on existing facilities and Modern nurses’ quarters to ensure healthcare workers have decent accommodation on-site.
* A fully equipped medical laboratory to improve diagnostic services in the enclave at Odumasi.
Empathy and Continued Commitment
The MCE expressed sympathy for individuals and communities across the country currently grappling with the devastating effects of recent flooding. He called for solidarity and community support for those who have lost property and livelihoods to the natural disaster.
Reaffirming his dedication to the people of Obuasi East, Hon. Adzowu pledged his unwavering commitment to supporting central government policies and programmes. He assured residents that his office would continue to work collaboratively with all stakeholders to accelerate sustainable development, improve infrastructure, and elevate the standard of living within the municipality.
