The Member of Parliament for the Obuasi East constituency Dr. Patrick Boakye Yiadom has once again demonstrated his resolve to make up for the infrastructural deficit in schools in the constituency.
The MP who is seeking another term of office has led community leaders at Domeabra to cut sod for the construction of a 6-unit classroom block with headteacher’s office, store room and a 12-seater water closet toilet facility in the community.
This was after the Member of Parliament in 2022 constructed a 2-unit KG block with headteacher’s office and a store room in the community.
Before Dr. Patrick Boakye Yiadom came into office in 2017, Domeabra was without any school with children having to journey to nearby Kwabenakwa to attend school. This became dangerous as they had to cross the main Obuasi- Asokwa road in order to access education.
According to Dr. Boakye Yiadom, he had to expedite action to put up a 2-unit KG classroom block there to salvage the situation.” We had no choice than to start a public school at Domeabra to prevent KG pupils from accessing school at Kwabenakwa which is quite a journey”.
The Obuasi East MP mentioned that the new classroom to be built is in fulfillment of his promise to the community to establish a primary school after commissioning the KG block in the community.
He said the project when completed will further decongest the Kwabenakwa School which accommodates pupils from Domeabra. He said the Kwabenakwa School remained one of the few schools running shift system in the district.
“The shift system does not bode well for a district like ours but it is all due to increase in enrollment hence we have taken steps to address them”, Dr. Boakye added.
The project is funded from the emergency school project of the Ghana Education Trust fund and is expected to be completed within 6-month period. A similar project is expected to be built at the Pomposo R/C School according to the MP.
Eric Ofori Ansah, Deputy Director of planning and statistics at the Obuasi East district education directorate who represented the director expressed gratitude to the Member of Parliament emphasizing that the MP has been instrumental in enhancing the quality of education through the provision of classroom infrastructure and educational materials.
He underscored the importance of the proposed 6-unit classroom in the Domeabra community. He said the project will go a long way to relieve the pressure on educational facilities at the nearby Kwabenakwa School.
Dr. Patrick Boakye Yiadom recently donated some 600 furniture to schools all in an effort to improve the quality of education in the constituency.
