Men must be involved during pregnancy and childbirth – Health Director

The Obuasi East District Health Director Madam Delphine Gborgblorvor has admonished men to get involved and support their wives during pregnancy and childbirth. She said since men are known to be the head of the house, it is incumbent on them not to abandon their wives during such periods. This she said will help reduce maternal mortality and Still birth.

Speaking at the Annual Health Performance Review organized by the District Health Directorate, Madam Delphine Gborgblorvor called on Health Personnel in the District to collaborate with one another. In what she described as ‘ Telemedicine’; a system where Health worker can call experts for advice when the need arises. She said this, when implemented will ensure quality healthcare delivery.

On the District’s fight against the spread of Coronavirus, the District Health Director said the Directorate has so far done well in the management of the Pandemic. She attributed the successes chalked to the roles played by AngloGold Ashanti Ghana, the Obuasi East District Assembly in providing PPEs and the education carried out by Health Personnel.

Madam Gborgblorvor further revealed that the Directorate has so far met most of their indicators but was quick to add that, there is more room for improvement.

Dr. Patrick Boakye Yiadom, the Member of Parliament for the Obuasi East Constituency said he was satisfied with the Health Situation in the District especially with the recent postings of Specialists and Midwives to Heath facilities in Obuasi East District.

Whiles touting his achievements in the Health sector, the MP further praised Health Personnel in the District for their role in the Coronavirus fight.

Dr. Kwadwo Anim of AGA Health Foundation in his presentation made known that since March, 2020, 503 Coronavirus cases has been reported in the District with 10 deaths. Again, he said from January, 85 new cases have been reported with one death. Regarding Health Personnel in the District, Dr. Anim said from March, 2020 till date, 56 Health workers contracted the disease with 7 people who are yet to recover.

He advised the general public to continue to observe the Covid-19 protocols to avoid contracting the disease.

There was also a presentation by Okwan John Addae of AddaPath Wellness, an Obuasi based NGO which is focused on educating people on Health and Wellness issues
