Hon. Patrick Boakye-Yiadom, the Member of Parliament for Obuasi East Constituency together with the District Chief Executive, Hon. Faustina Ammisah has visited victims of Boete Timber market fire to solidarize with them over their lost properties.
Fire wrecked a portion Of the timber market recently, and affected some carpenters, wood sellers, sawmill bridges and among others.
Hon. Boakye-Yiadom Who got the signal of the sad incident far away from the constituency, later paid a visits to the victims to commiserate with them. He also assessed the extent of damage caused by the fire with the leadership of the market who gave him a vivid description of the incident.
He said, it remains the biggest Timber market in Adansi Which all the districts around and even outside the Adansi enclave, it has also been in operation for a very long time.
Assessing the situation, the Obuasi East MP believed that the extent of damage caused by the fire could amount to millions of Ghana cedis.
” I cannot replace everything for them but the little support that we can do for them to erect their structures again, repair the machines that can be repaired and also buy some working tools and woods for start this is what we are here for”, he added..
He presented an amount of GHS 100,000 to the leadership of the timber market. He encouraged them to look into the future with hope adding that “When there is life there is hope always”. Accordingly he urged them not to allow the calamity that has befallen them to discourage them from fighting on in life and with business in order to meet their respective goals.
The MP also used the opportunity to reaffirm her commitment to the good people of Obuasi East and assured the victims that this would not be the last time.
Hon. Faustina Ammisah said, she was overwhelmed by the properties destroyed by fire during her initial visit after the fire outbreak and indicated that moving forward, a lot of measures will be rolled out to reduce future occurrences of which the relocation is the major one.
On the relocation of the timber market, she said the new timber market which is located at Boete ‘Senet’ is currently under construction. A prototype of the structures has been constructed by the Assembly pending approval from the consultants and the leadership of the timber market.
She again said the relocation of the timber market will be so helpful to them. She said ” looking at how congested the current place is, the new site is very spacious and can accommodate everyone here and also those who want to join them later”
Hon. Amissah further indicated that It was also going to boost the revenue generation of the Assembly.
Mr. Kwaku Asamoah Orlando the Chairman of the Timber market received the donations on behalf of the victims and thank the MP and the DCE for their timely intervention stressing that it will cushion them as they prepare to gather the pieces together to restore their businesses.
He also called on benevolent organizations and individuals to come to the aid of the victims.
They were accompanied by some Constituency Executives led by Hon. Jeff Kwadwo Adjei Oware, the constituency Chairman.
